The Qigong session

  • We teach the Shibashi 18 movements set one which is easy to learn and develop at your own pace.
  • Sessions last around an hour and can be practised standing or seated.
  • Chairs are provided in the classes if you need to sit or for those who find standing too tiring.
  • The classes are suitable for all ages, from beginners to more experienced.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and flat shoes e.g. trainers or pumps.
  • My classes are informal and friendly, and I hope to provide a place where you can learn and have fun at the same time.
We start with some gentle warm up and loosening exercises then practice the Shibashi Qigong set performed with several repeats in a fluid and continuous way. Each movement in Shibashi will usually be performed 6 times before you progress onto the next one.

When you are learning each exercise in the 1st Set you should concentrate on doing the physical movements initially. Once you have gained some practice in doing this you can learn to synchronise the breathing with the movements so the whole sequence becomes fluid and harmonious. Within a few weeks of regular practice, the set takes about 15-18 minutes to perform.
You should try to practice Qigong every day as the beneficial effects are cumulative. The 20 minutes needed to practice the first set of Shibashi is a very small investment of your time in relation to the health benefits that you can accumulate as you continue with your regular daily training.

Sometimes the results are surprising and come more quickly than you might have expected. As well as gaining noticeable improvements to your health you should also expect to have more energy and you will find it progressively easier to cope with the all demands of modern life.

Health Issues
Certain physical injuries, particularly of the back and neck, may prevent you from practising. If you’re in any doubt, ask your doctor if you should be attending classes and make sure Sarah is aware of your condition.
